Being my first post after the holidays, I hope everyone had a safe one.
Today, my post is decisively non-technical. I’m hoping I can secure some opinions from anyone who may have had the same experience, etc.
I currently lease a 2007 Saab 9-3. My lease ends May 2011. In May 2011, I’m supposed to have 60,053 miles per the terms. Unfortunately, however, my driving habits and commute to work have changed multiple times over the course of my lease, and thus, I’m due to hit my 60,053 mile limit sometime mid-summer.
So now my questions to the community – do I buy something now? Or when my miles are almost totally exhausted? There are two sides to this question:
If I buy now, I’ll have two cars to alternate between, hopefully off-setting my mileage crisis with those from another car, but I’ll have two car payments until May 2011.
If I buy later, I’ll have fewer months with two car payments, but I’ll have to dedicate almost all driving to the new one, leading to faster depreciation.
So – which is the best? Endure a few extra months of payments, but be able to alternate? Or just drive this to within a thousand miles or so of end-lease and save car payments for the next few months?
